Description
I love Hawkman but ever since they cancelled his comic he has been used very poorly lately by DC. I am one of the few who think Carter Hall should be one of the greats. I mean he has 3000 years of combat and life experiences under his belt, he should be right up there with Batman in terms of smarts and strategy but the keep him under the whole "conan with wings" logic. Oh well. Here he is with a little Thanagarian space mace

I feel very much the same way. Since reading Geoff John's run with Hawkman, he has occupied a position as my #1 favorite DC hero (with Batman coming in at a close second).
I always loved his origin; the concept of the Hawks being reincarnated warriors was pretty unique for a character who got his start in the 40's, when most fledgling comic characters were more "sci-fi" in nature.
That being said I was never a huge fan of the Katar Hol version; it just seemed like a desperate grab to make the character more "sci-fi" so he'd fit in with the growing trends of space and science fiction in pop culture at the time.
Granted, the New 52 actually managed to make Katar Hol more likable in my eyes (mainly due to throwing in the rougher edge and character depth the Carter Hall version had), but as is always the case with DC, they've relegated him to the dusty shelf where any character not directly involved with Batman or Superman is put.
